Showcasing hydrogen to the next generation
November 2025
As part of our commitment to shaping a cleaner future, we’re not only advancing hydrogen innovation, we’re helping the next generation understand its potential. That mission came to life when Year 4 pupils from Woodrow First School visited our hydrogen kitchen at Tyseley Energy Park.
The visit built on the school’s recent science lessons transforming classroom knowledge into real-world experience. Within Birmingham’s Energy Innovation Zone, pupils discovered how hydrogen is already playing a role in cleaner transport, smarter energy systems, and future-ready infrastructure.
Hands-on highlights included:
- A guided tour of the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre
- Exciting hydrogen experiments led by the University of Birmingham outreach team
- An interactive session inside our "worlds-first" hydrogen kitchen.
Each activity was designed to spark curiosity, encourage questions, and show how innovation happens beyond the classroom.
The day ended with a fun science quiz which left pupils buzzing with ideas about sustainability and the possibilities hydrogen can unlock. For many, it was their first time seeing clean energy in action.
At National Gas Metering we believe innovation should benefit communities today while empowering the people who will shape tomorrow. Partnerships like this demonstrate how industry, education, and research can work together to accelerate meaningful change.
