Strengthening our leadership in hydrogen innovation
November 2025
As the energy sector accelerates toward a low-carbon future, the ability to understand, measure and manage emerging gases, especially hydrogen has become essential.
Staying at the forefront of this transition requires not only strategic vision but also deep technical capability. That is why two of our hydrogen engineers, Phill Burbridge and Nick Parton recently travelled to the Netherlands to participate in the Advanced fiscal metering of natural gas programme.
Their attendance reinforces our commitment to building first class expertise in hydrogen metering, system integration and energy infrastructure design, areas that will underpin the safe and efficient operation of commercial and industrial hydrogen infrastructure.
Building capability for the energy system of the future
For our engineers, the course delivered both practical and theoretical skills, deepening their understanding of how to design and operate fiscal metering systems while minimising uncertainty and preventing systematic error. It also provided exposure to real life operational environments, experience that is essential for developing robust, future-proofed infrastructure.
This knowledge directly supports our ongoing hydrogen innovation programmes. Whether we are evaluating metering performance for hydrogen distribution or developing operational frameworks for next-generation energy systems, the advanced insights gained from this course strengthen our technical capability across the organisation.
Demonstrating our commitment to excellence
As the industry navigates rapid change, the ability to adopt new gases safely and efficiently will be a defining factor in the success of the energy transition. By investing in advanced training and continuously developing specialist expertise, we demonstrate our commitment not only to innovation but also to operational excellence and leadership in the hydrogen sector.
Our participation in this advanced metering programme is another step in ensuring that we remain at the forefront of technical understanding—ready to support customers, partners and stakeholders as hydrogen and other new gases take their place in the energy mix of the future.
