National Gas and Gasunie advance decarbonisation through new partnership
The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by Luke Rowlands, National Gas Business Development Director and Bert Kiewiet, Gasunie Head of Business Development International.
At the World Hydrogen Summit 2025 in Rotterdam, National Gas announced its strategic partnership with Gasunie, The Netherland’s and Northern Germany’s national gas transmission operator, marking a pivotal step towards realising our shared sustainability ambitions.
The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by Luke Rowlands, National Gas Business Development Director and Bert Kiewiet, Gasunie Head of Business Development International.
The MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for both companies to work together to advance decarbonised energy solutions across multiple sources, including natural gas, hydrogen, biomethane and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.
In its multi-faceted approach, the MOU recognises that no single technology or pathway can address the complex challenges of climate change and the energy transition. Instead, our partnership invests in pragmatic research and development across various complementary routes.
This follows a number of collaborations with European partners by National Gas, including Germany’s GASCADE in creating a hydrogen pipeline, and Belgium’s Fluxys, which sees a similar exploration of decarbonisation methods and infrastructure.
National Gas is committed to continued collaboration with European partners to ensure the development of energy resilience across the continent, as well as jointly targeting net zero goals.
