National Gas is proud to announce a new partnership with Gas Networks Ireland (GNI), marking another important step in our mission to accelerate the energy transition.
The new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in our London office by Ian Radley, Chief Commercial Officer at National Gas and David Kelly, Director of Customer and Business Development at GNI. It sets the foundation for closer collaboration on hydrogen and biomethane gases, and blends of these gases in the natural gas system.
The MoU will enable us to share information and outcomes from our respective operational improvement activities, and to explore mutually beneficial projects.
The agreement also outlines our shared ambition to explore a new or repurposed interconnector between the UK and Ireland, capable of transporting 100% hydrogen. While still in the early conceptual phase, we are keen to identify potential demand and supply, key barriers and regulatory changes required for the project to succeed. We welcome input from across the market in to help shape this exciting opportunity.
Ian Radley, Chief Commercial Officer at National Gas, commented:
" This agreement is a significant milestone in our journey towards a low carbon and secure energy future.
By working closely with GNI, we can accelerate innovation and unlock the full potential of hydrogen and biomethane across our networks. Collaboration like this is essential if we are to meet our climate goals and ensure energy security for generations to come.
I look forward to working with Bobby Gleeson, the Chief Operating Officer, and we are excited to continue our great work with the entire team at GNI."
David Kelly, Director of Customer and Business Development at GNI, added:
“We’re excited to collaborate with National Gas, this MoU represents a pivotal opportunity for Ireland and the UK to work together on the future of clean energy.
By combining our expertise and resources, we can accelerate the development of biomethane and hydrogen solutions that are vital to decarbonising our gas networks.”
Our new agreement with GNI is an important step in helping us align on key challenges, as we work together to build a cleaner, more resilient energy future for both nations.
We look forward to collaborating with GNI to turn our shared vision into reality.
