Gas Winter Review & Consultation 2025

Welcome to this year's Gas Winter Review & Consultation.

Great Britain’s demand was about 1.3 bcm higher than the previous year, this was largely due to and 18% increase in gas demand for power generation. This increase was driven by a combination of colder weather, still conditions and the closure of the last coal plant.

When looking at total National Transmission System demand as a whole the increase was smaller, only around 0.4 bcm. While exports to Ireland rose about 0.4 bcm those to continental Europe fell by 1.3 bcm.

Supplies in winter 2024/25 were diverse, with UKCS & Norway providing the steady supplies we would usually expect. Flexible supplies came from Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Great Britain’s gas storage and imports from Continental Europe.

We set all of this out in our Gas Winter Review report here.
